  • Dores Cross Country

The promise of a proper testing cross country course, dragged record numbers of Hill Runners to Dores.

Five women set off first to enjoy the testing undulating course. Megan Bee was first HHR home in 4th, closely followed home by Rhona Grant (7th) and Shona Mackie (9th) to secure 2nd place team. Only 2 points behind Forres. Claire Piper was the final HHR lady to finish, after Becki Mackenzie had to drop out after the first lap.

Fourteen HHR men stormed around the stubble free course (yes, 14!!). No other club had more runners!

First home in 18th was new recruit Willie Nicolson, who sneaked ahead on the first climb and pulled away from Ross Bannerman (19th) and Dougie Macdonald (20th). After a battle with Ross and Dougie on the first lap, final counter Ryan Mckenzie (26th) secured 4th place team. Only 20 points behind a strong Moray Road Runners squad.

Next Hill Runners home were Stuart Forrest (30th), Waldek Krogulec (45th), Ewan Gordon (46th), Graham Whyte (48th), Dave Chandler (49th), Jim Meehan (51st), Alex Sutherland (57th), Gordie Taylor (62nd), Alastair Watson (64th) and Willie Macrae (70th).

Well done to Jim Meehan for running from Inverness to Dores, to run the race. His plan was run home, but before the race he was offered a lift home by a club mate. But that club mate was too busy feasting on the vast selection of cake and sandwiches back in the hall, that he forgot all about Jim! Hopefully Jim made it home somehow...

Many thanks to all that ran - including 8 league first timers. Hopefully see most of you in Edderton next Saturday. Another fun and challenging course - and the cakes were excellent last year!
