  • Darnaway 21 Feb

At the HHR AGM, the discussions included a wee chat about the possibility of having an HHR Orienteering outing in 2016.

A date early in the year, before the busy race period kicks off sounded like a plan.

On 21st February there is an event at Darnaway Forest, so not too far to travel.

There is a full spread of courses from White to Brown, see link below, and Darnaway is thought of as one of the best areas in Scotland for Orienteering, it's very runnable open woodland.

To make it a wee competition, there is a way to score the different courses by using the same system as INVOC's club champs.

This would be adapted for our fun challenge, so bragging rights and cheap prizes could be on offer!

Points calculated =  The average of the first 3 finishers' times for your course is divided by your time and the result multiplied by the relevant magic number for each course difficulty.

White and Yellow are beginner levels for young kids, tend to be v short, and stick to paths.

Orange and Light Green are for progressing towards competent map reading, but not too difficult.

Green to Brown are the same high technical difficulty but with increasing length (You'll need to be good with a compass for these).

Also let me know if anyone would be interested in some basic training / tips, possibly on an evening before the event.

Depending on interest, more info to follow...

There are also 2 semi-perm courses near Aviemore until end of Feb, if you want some forest practice
