  • Aonach Mor Uphill Hill. New Years Day.

108 brave souls faced new years day head on with the cracking race at Aonach Mor. Conditions were perfect with the temperature only cold for the first hundred yards then we were all wishing we hadn't ran with hats and gloves.

The race started at a very high pace with the leaders making their presence well known and by the time the first corner was turned they were out of sight. The climb for the first half of the race winds its way through the forest and then comes to a stile. Once over this it's onto steeper ground and a few wooden bridges have to be attempted. Luckily it wasnt too slippy underfoot but still alot of runners were opting for going through the boggy ground to the sides, very wise really. If you have enough energy left by the time the station comes into sight at the top you get a great view off the competition ahead and can start picking folk out for a sprint finish.

Robbie Simpson proved he is still on record breaking form with a winning time of 21.13 breaking his own record by 1 minute 2 seconds. Another record breaker fresh from the Cuillin Ridge, Finlay Wild was second in 22.28 and Inverness Harriers new recruit Graham Bee held off very tough competition with an awesome time off 23.27 to take third spot.

The womans race was won by Lochabers Diane Baum just coming in under the half hour with a fast time of 29.29, second was Carnethys Lisa Gamble in 31.19 and our very own Megan Bee kept up with Mr Bee and took another third home to Inverness with a brilliant run in 31.54

Oher HHRs were Stuart Malcolm who flew up and took 13th in 27.13 as well as second v40, Stuart Forrest 25th 28.49, Megan Bee 36th 31.54, Ed Bradley 38th 32.05, Richard Roberts 42nd 32.28 and Claire Piper 86th 40.35.

A brilliant race topped off with soup and coffee at the top. Online entries next year I beleive so get your name in early.
