Saturday was a chance for a very fast and tough wee hill race at Drumnadrochit as part of the Glenurqhart highland games. After a slight delay in the starting time a happy wee bunch of runners all huddled in the rain and prepared for the gun.

The race took off out the field with the usual suspects off Gordon Lennox, Andrew Wilby and back from the wilderness Ross Bannerman all battling early for the top spot.

After dodging all the games goers and tourists up the road and over the bridge we were directed up a very steep section off road which soon slowed the pace.

Then onto the hill proper and hands on knees past the awesome guy ringing his bell when we passed and shouting words off encouragement. As we reached the top with the lungs going full whack Gordon had taken the lead with Andrew second and Ross third and it was a very close contest for the finish.

This hill is a full on descent and very fast going but Gordon took the first prize with Andrew behind in second followed by Ross.

Gill Irvine for the highland women was back on form with a fine run and leaving husband Hamish on the track battling in tough conditions on the bike.

A great blast but to top it all Ross wins the vet race off four times round the track and Andrew takes second then we all thought why not just do the relay as well so with the legs truly worked we called it a great day out.

Now extra special mention must go to Gordon Lennox who not only won the ten mile race in the morning beating our young Scotland select Ross Campbell, he also took on the 800m and 1500m battling at full pace against Harrier Steven Mackay, then the hill race, then jumps straight in for the 400m, then helps me and Ross win 2nd place in the 4 x half lap relay.....not a bad effort if I do say so, thats helped pay your fuel bill now Gordon....
